Denver recreationDenver, Colorado, offers many things to do for both indoor and outdoor enthusiasts, although with over 300 days of sunshine per year, it´s hard to stay inside. Locals often joke that Colorado is the only place where you can ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon.

For hiking enthusiasts, there are many state parks in the metro area, including the Golden Gate Park and Red Rocks parks, which are both located just west of the city and offer fantastic mountain views and trails. Lookut Mountain, located just off of I-70 in Golden, is a local favorite, boasts beautiful views of the city. Further west, many can find the famed Colorado “Fourteeners,” which climb over 14,000 feet. These trails are attractive to a wide range of skill levels.  If scenic views are more your style, Rocky Mountain National Park is not far out of the city and is home to the nation´s highest road, providing spectators breathtaking views of the Rockies.

Mountain biking is also a popular sport for Coloradoans. Winter Park, Colorado, located 80 miles from the city, is home to many mountain bike trails and events. Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin, Keystone and Breckenridge are just on the other side of the Eisenhower tunnel and many ride the ski lifts up to the top and mountain bike down. These ski resort towns also offer many festivals, concerts and events during the summer making them a perfect weekend getaway.

In the city of Denver, there are many parks and public golf courses. City Park Golf Course, located in the heart of the city, was recently named the best public golf course in the state. However, within the city itself, there are seven public courses.  Coloradoans are also known for their love of canines.  There are many dog parks in the city where Fido can swim, sniff, catch and play with other dogs leash free.

And what would Colorado be without its ski resorts?  The world-renowned Rocky Mountains provide some of the best snow and trails that are just a hop, skip and a jump from the city.  Winter Park and Mary Jane, the city´s closest ski resorts, is located just up I-70 off Highway 40.  This resort offers trails for a wide variety of skill groups. Arapahoe Basin is known for always being the first resort to open, and the last to close, often opening as early as October and staying open as late as July. Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mountain are located no more than 90 minutes outside of the city, so they are an easy day-trip from the Denver area.  Further out, locals enjoy Vail and Beaver Creek, two of the most famous resorts in the world.  Steamboat Springs, Wolf Creek and Aspen are all further out, but accessible if looking for a longer vacation.
