We wanted to share a recent Fox News report singing praises for Denver, Colorado. While it may seem like a Denver of Chamber Commerce commercial, it was a report entitled, “How Can You Profit From Housing Growth in Denver?”

Yes, people are moving here from the southeast, the northeast, California and the list goes on! Why is Denver such an attractive destination? The report mentions that the main reason that people are moving to Denver is because of its vibrant lifestyle – Denver residents are young, active, happy and healthy. The report also praises Denver for its low unemployment rate, fresh air and for its low foreclosure rate.

There is good news on the Colorado employment front! September was one of the best months for Colorado job growth in 42 months. The state added 34,000 jobs in September, compared to September of last year. The Colorado unemployment rate decreased in September to 8.3 percent, which places Colorado 24th among all the states. The national unemployment rate is unchanged at 9.1 percent.

Several major companies have recently announced plans to relocate employees to the Denver metro area. Arrow Electronics, a Fortune 140 company, announced last week that it is relocating its headquarters from Mellvile, New York to Centennial, where it already employs 1,000 people.

Aurora has been selected for General Electric’s PrimeStar Solar plant, which will employ 355 people. The state-of-the-art solar-panel manufacturing plant will jumpstart Colorado’s clean energy sector. The Coleman Company is also moving 25 executives from Wichita, Kansas to Golden.

Highlands Ranch Celebrates its 30th Birthday in 2011!

Happy 30th Birthday to Highlands Ranch, Colorado! A little history on Highlands Ranch: Sometime between 1890 and 1900, the original Highlands Ranch Manson was built on 12,000 acres by wealthy homesteader, John Springer who was the largest landholder in the area during the late 1800′s. He established the Springer Cross Country Horse and Cattle Ranch and built approximately 60% of its present structure. The mansion itself consists of 22,000 square feet and boasts 14 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a ballroom, a great room, a dining room, a billiard room, a library, a butler´s pantry and kitchen, 11 fireplaces, and a private courtyard. Today, the Mansion functions as it did in the past, as a working ranch. During the early 1900′s, surrounding homesteads were acquired and the cattle ranch grew to consist of more than 23,000 acres.

Today’s Highlands Ranch, a 22,000-acre master-planned community, began as a plan for a basic suburban housing development circa 1981. Mission Viejo, a California-based company, sought to build out the master-planned community in several phases over many decades. Shea Homes took over Highlands Ranch in 1997 and has overseen its development until the end – the community is now almost 100 percent built out.

In just 30 years, Highlands Ranch has grown to over 90,000 residents. The community features four state-of-the-art recreation centers, a plethora of parks and open space, top-notch schools, and endless shopping and dining opportunities. It offers a wonderful quality of life.

The preliminary 2010 U.S. census numbers were released last week, indicating that people are still moving to beautiful Colorado!

Colorado’s population has passed the 5 million mark, which is a 1.8 percent increase from last year. Only Wyoming, Utah, and Texas had higher growth rates than Colorado.

According to a recent article in the Denver Post, Colorado added 727,935 residents from 2000-2010, an increase of 16.92 percent. This is the ninth fastest growth rate in the country for the decade.  While this is an impressive figure, the state grew by over 30 percent in the 1990s, so growth has slowed.

The strong growth is good news for the Denver housing market. Colorado has a reputation as a great place to live, boasting a stable job economy with a diverse industry base, along with a plethora of recreational and cultural opportunities. With 300+ days of sunshine (bound to be more than this after the winter we are having!), and panoramic mountain views, Denver is a wonderful place to call home.

Littleton, Colorado, is having a great month! In November, Littleton was named among Cnnfn.com’s “Eight Cities That Want Your Business.” This past week, Littleton was named Bloomberg’s, “Best place to raise kids in Colorado.”

According to the report, Littleton was selected as a great place to raise kids because its residents have “access to public transportation to Denver, about 10 miles away, via light rail. Littleton has a historic district and museums and is home to South Platte Park, one of the largest suburban parks.”

In addition to offering a plethora of recreational opportunities to families, Littleton is also home to some of the best schools in Colorado. The Colorado Department of Education recently unveiled its new rating system and Littleton Public Schools was one of the few districts in Colorado to achieve the honor of “Accredited with Distinction.”

Denver has been named among CNBC’s “Best Cities to Relocate to in America.” Landing in the ninth spot on the list, CNBC praised the Denver area for its stability, an attractive downtown, a strong art and culture scene, and a plethora of outdoor activities. The report also mentioned Denver’s unemployment rate of 7.4 percent, which is much lower that the national average of 10.2 percent. Other cities recognized include: Minneapolis, Madison, Des Moines, Austin, Fort Worth – Arlington, Omaha, Buffalo, and Pittsburgh.

We couldn’t agree with CNBC more. The Denver area is a great place city to consider for relocation. It offers panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, and a plethora of recreational opportunities.

TeamCox Realtors is always on the lookout for rankings that include Colorado cities, but this one truly takes the cake! Forbes recently released its 12 annual ranking of “Best Places for Business and Careers,” which recognizes multiple Colorado cities. Three Colorado cities – Fort Collins (4), Denver (6), and Colorado Springs (12) – were ranked in the top 12, which is very impressive! Cities were evaluated on 12 criterion, including the cost of doing business, the cost of living, job-growth trends, projected economic growth, crime rates, the number of highly ranked four-year colleges in the area, recreational opportunities, quality of life, and cultural attributes.

This is great news for Denver and for the entire Colorado region, since a strong business foundation is crucial to a strong recovery in the Denver real estate market.  The national recession’s impact on the Denver area, and on Colorado as a whole, has been much milder than on other cities, due to its diverse industry base.

Denver Named Among 2010 Best Winter Locations

Move over, California! The Weather Channel has named Denver, Colorado among its, “2010 Best Winter Locations” list. Yes, we’ve bragged about Denver’s mild winter weather to non-residents for years, but they never seem to believe us!

Well, the Weather Channel has finally validated these claims by ranking Denver as the 7th “Best Winter Location” with the reasoning, “When you analyze Denver’s 2009-2010 winter, it’s nearly non-descript. When a winter season is non-descript that usually is a good thing. Denver’s winter lacked any significant winter storms with an active storm track that generally stayed to Colorado’s south. Yes, temperatures did remain at or below average for the majority of the season but a winter season without any crippling snowstorms in the city is a win in our book.” Other cities named included Los Angeles (#9 – yes, it was ranked lower than Denver after its heavy rain this winter), Honolulu (#4), Portland, Oregon (#3), Taos, New Mexico (#2), and Seattle (#1).

These rankings may be up for debate – let’s see Los Angeles or Denver in January? Maybe the judges forgot or totally overlooked our massive Halloween snowstorm? We’ll take it, though! We’ll see if our good fortune holds since March is usually one of Denver’s snowiest months. And, what is wrong with a little snow in Colorado?

If the Weather Channel’s judges think Colorado’s winters are good, they should come and visit during Denver’s beautiful, mild summer months. Denver’s low humidity, mild temperatures, and cool nights, arguably makes it once of the best cities for summer weather.
