History and Architecture

Three growth periods formed Denver’s character:  the Victorian, when silver was discovered, Turn of the Century, when gold was discovered, and the oil boom of the 1980′s.  As the mile-high city, Denver’s history is tied to the Wild West, yet it is closer to the heart of the country than any other major metropolitan area, except Kansas City.  You can find diverse architectural styles for any taste, from old brick ranches, to Victorian showcases, to modern steel and glass structures framing the panorama of the Rocky Mountains to the west.

Recreation

Recreation forms a big part of life in Denver, because there are so many opportunities available:  skiing, biking, 70 golf courses, river running, hiking, fishing, camping, horseback riding – and the list goes on!  Professional sports are very popular, including the Nuggets basketball team, Avalanche Hockey team, and Broncos football team.

Weather

Weather is mild, dry, and averages 300 days of sunshine per year.  It snows in the winter, but a day later can be 70°.  Indian summer is common, featuring deep blue skies and gold autumn leaves with temperatures in the low 80°s extending well into October.

Urban Amenities

For the urbanite, central Denver in the last 20 years has been completely renovated, and offers cafes, modern hotels, the convention center, performing arts center, museums, shopping complexes, and a multitude of restaurants and night spots.
