Raising the Bar on Colorado Real Estate Agents

The Colorado Division of Real Estate recently announced that it is increasing its real estate agent licensing fees to compensate for a sudden 60 percent drop in new agents. I would argue that along with the fees, it is also necessary to raise the bar on Colorado real estate agents.

For real estate agents just embarking on the business, it is necessary to have a thorough understanding the real estate business. Managing brokers have hired newly licensed agents for years, simply because they passed the test. The problem is that the real estate schools simply train people on how to pass the test, not on how to do a market evaluation, accurately price a home, or market a home. There is one victim of this on-the-job training – the consumer. It is necessary to stop thrusting newly licensed agents onto the unknowing public. Many of newly licensed agents are hired only because they will work for cheap, or worse yet, they are a friend or a family member.

You will save time and money by hiring a trustworthy and competent real estate professional to represent you in one of largest transactions of your life. You need someone who can wisely lead you through this life-altering decision. Thinning the herd of inexperienced real estate agents will go a long way to improve the real estate industry’s unruly image.
